Day 1 - Friday 17th December (D)We arrive in Launceston and head to Anvers Chocolate Factory for a Bavarian style chocolate tasting and talk before travelling to Devonport for an overnight stay at Gateway Motor Inn.
Day 2 - Saturday 18th December (B,L,D)We leave our hotel and head to Sheffield, "Town of Murals", for a wander through town. Then it's on to Cradle Mountain N.P. for a guided tour of pioneer Gustav Weindorffer's Chalet, and Dove Lake. Enjoy lunch at the Cradle Mountain Chateau before visiting the Wilderness and Landscape Gallery then we travel to the copper mining town of Queenstown for our 2 night stay at Chancellor Inn.
Day 3 - Sunday 19th Dec (B,L,D)We head out early to Strahan, to cruise the mighty Gordon River in reserved premium seating. Voyage through Hell's Gates, stop at infamous Sarah Island, stepping ashore at Heritage Landing to see the 2000 year old Huon Pine before enjoying a delicious smorgasbord lunch on board. We then return to Queenstown.
Day 4 - Monday 20th December (B,L,D)This morning we head east, take a short rainforest walk in the Franklin Gordon Wild River N.P. then on to Nelson Waterfalls before stopping at the hydro electric village of Tarraleah. Enjoy lunch and a wander through the traditional cottage garden while taking a step back in time at Glen Clyde House, built by convicts in the 1840's. Continuing on through the Derwent Valley, hop fields and historic New Norfolk, to Hobart for a short orientation tour including Mt Nelson. Check into Fountainside Motel for 2 night stay.
Day 5 - Tuesday 21st December (B,L,D)Today is our visit to the infamous penal settlement of Port Arthur. We stop for a "cuppa" and tour of nostalgic trash & treasure at Copping Colonial Museum, and visit the natural rock formations of Tasman's Arch and Devil's Kitchen at Eagle Hawk Neck. After lunch we join a guided tour to learn how convicts lived, worked and died under threat of the lash in a system that drove many to madness.
Day 6 - Wednesday 22nd December (B,L,D)Leaving Hobart, we pass through historical Richmond and view Australia's oldest Catholic Church's spire from beneath the arches of the oldest stone bridge in Australia. We travel to the town of Ross to marvel at unique sandstone buildings. Heading east we visit East Coast Nature World to experience Tasmania's unique animals, birds, reptiles & plant life, and meet the Tasmanian Devil before heading to Tidal Waters Resort, St Helens.
Day 7 - Thursday 23rd December (B,L,D)This morning we visit Legerwood Carvings, a tribute to the soldiers serving their country in World War 1. Then on to lunch at the 'Flying Teapot' before touring Bridestowe Lavender Farm, one of the world's largest single commercial lavender farms producing for the perfume industry. Travel via Batman Bridge to Brady's Lookout, for picturesque views of the Tamar Valley, then check into Tamar Valley Resort at Grindelwald Swiss Village for a 3 night stay.
Day 8 - Friday 24th December (B,L,D)Explore the unique contrasts of the Tamar Valley today. Our river cruise includes commentary about characters and tales that characterised this region. Taste world class local wines, beer, cheeses and fresh produce. Morning tea and lunch is supplied on board. We then head to Cataract Gorge with its cliff-side gardens, peacocks, and Alexandra Suspension Bridge, taking a ride on the world's longest single span chairlift before heading back to our resort.
Day 9 - Saturday 25th December (B,L,D)Merry Christmas! Today just relax and enjoy the golf, tennis, heated swimming pool and facilities at the resort. Meet your fellow passengers for a superb Christmas lunch.
Day 10 - Sunday 26th December (B,L,D)Today we travel to Longford to the historic Woolmers Estate for a guided tour. We take a self-guided tour of the National Rose Garden before heading to the airport and our return flights.
