Day 1. Fri 4 Nov 2011: (MT,L,D)
Departing from Roma St Brisbane, we travel south through the green Tweed Valley, stopping for morning tea at Plantation House. We continue on to Yamba Golf Club for lunch then discover the Scottish town of Maclean before heading to Grafton. At this time of year Grafton’s streets are a canopy of colour with over 5000 Jacaranda trees in full bloom. Check-in at Quality Hotel Grafton for a 2 night stay.
Day 2. Sat 5 Nov 2011 (B,D)
This morning we meet up with a local guide who will take us on a colourful tour of the streets of Grafton. The rest of today is your own to enjoy an array of events that Grafton’s Jacaranda Festival has to offer: browse the markets (opposite our hotel); the Festival of Flowers display; the vintage car display; enjoy one of the mini concerts featuring the whirl of bagpipes and performing Scottish, Irish and Highland dancers (in the Market Square). The coach will transfer guests wanting to visit the woodworkers display, embroidery, needlework and doll display. We end our day watching the festival’s Float Parade.
Day 3. Sun 6 Nov 2011 (B,L,D)
Today we travel through the rural town of Casino, climb through the open grasslands toward the New England Plateau, and break for lunch at Tenterfield Golf Club. We then take a town tour of Tenterfield past the Saddler and The Old Cork Tree before heading for Stanthorpe. Enjoy our stops at Aloomba Lavender Farm then Castle Glen Vineyard, the largest liqueur manufacturer in Australia, set in a modern day castle. We check in at The Vines Motel, for a 2 night stay, before dining out at Thunderbolt Farm offering wonderful views overlooking the vineyard and lights of Stanthorpe.
Day 4. Mon 7 Nov 2011 (B,L,D)
This morning we visit Pure Heaven, a certified organic skincare factory specializing in freshly made body butters, potent plant body creams, delicious soap cake slices. Next we stop at the Strawberry Fields to sample, and order our supplies to collect on our last day. Back on the coach we drive through the Sirromet Vineyard, then on to the Pyramid before breaking for lunch at The Bramble Patch Berry Farm, renowned for quality strawberries, raspberries and boysenberries. Enjoy lunch surrounded by crops of berries before indulging in the Berry Waffle Basket. This afternoon Ballandean Vineyard Estate provide a guided tour, to see how wine and port is produced and bottled, then we travel to Mount Stirling Olive Farm and fudge shop. Tonight dress theme is RED for our finale night. We dine out in a Castle perched high on the hill overlooking a brilliant red sunset, enjoying a fun night offering dinner and show with our characters Manuel, Dawn Bowls and Raymondo Redman.
Day 5. Tue 8 Nov 2011 (B,L)
This morning we visit the Stanthorpe Museum, recognised as one of the best country museums in Australia with informative exhibits in five buildings collectively tracing the area’s evolution through pastoral, mining, health retreat and fruit and wine industries. We break for lunch at the College of Wine and Tourism where we learn how to match food with wine, dining on 3 small courses accompanied by wines suited to the dishes. We head home via Cunningham’s Gap, back in to Roma Street, Brisbane, at approx 4.30pm.
