Working Cattle Station
Day 1 - TuesdayBoard The Westlander at Roma St Station Brisbane and check into your sleeper for an overnight journey to Charleville. A warm friendly club car is open tonight for you to sit back, relax and enjoy a drink with your fellow travellers.
Day 2 - Wednesday (B,L,D)Enjoy breakfast whilst taking in the scenery of the South West. Arrive in Charleville for a brief tour before lunch at the Cosmos Centre. We then travel through red earth Mulga country and open Mitchell Grass plains to 'Nardoo Station'. Enjoy 'happy hour' and, perhaps, a hot artesian spa. Overnight Nardoo Station.
Dingo Fence
Day 3 - Thursday (B,L,D)Take a stroll around the station precinct before leaving for Cunnamulla and the quaint little town of Eulo, and its famous date farm. After lunch we travel via Lake Bindegolly NP to Thargomindah. At sunset discover the 'hydro-electric' history of the recently redeveloped century-old artesian bore. Overnight Oasis Motel, Thargomindah.
Day 4 - Friday (B,MT,L,D)
Sturts Desert Pea
Crossing the Dingo Barrier Fence we travel into outback NSW for a picnic lunch, then on via the Noccundra Hotel and Warri Gate. We then traverse Sturt NP and spectacular 'jump up' country of Gibber. Enjoy 'happy half hour' soaking up the significance of Sturt's survival in harsh conditions. Overnight in Tibooburra.
Day 5 - Saturday (B,L,D)Travel onto Cameron's Corner then cross the red dunes to Merty Merty for a picnic lunch en-route to the famous Strzelecki Track.
Outback Wildlife
We continue through the Strzelecki Desert to Innamincka, passing the Moomba Gas Installation. Overnight Innamincka.
Day 6 - Sunday (B,L,D)Today we relax around Cooper Creek. Tour Innamincka's pioneer graves, retrace the last days of Burke and Wills and hear about the town with two lives. Overnight Innamincka.
Day 7 - Monday (B,L,D)
Birdsville Hotel
Depart for Birdsville via the famous Dig Tree. Travelling onto Cordillo Downs, through the top end of the Strzelecki Desert then on to the Cadelga Ruins. Venture across the dunes and Gibber and on to the top end of the Birdsville Track, crossing the mighty Diamantina River. Overnight Birdsville.
Day 8 - Tuesday (B,L,D)Visit the Birdsville Race Club and discover the Burke and Wills tree. Mid afternoon we head out for 'happy hour' on the amazing 'Big Red' sand dune.
Colourful Outback Sunse
Feel the very soul of Australia as the sun goes down over the heart of the Outback. Dinner at the Birdsville Pub includes a Flying Doctor auction and our fun farewell awards. Overnight Birdsville.
Day 9 - Wednesday (B,L,D)Head for the ghost town of Betoota then Deon's Lookout and onto Windorah for lunch. Follow the Cooper Creek catchment of the famous Lake Eyre basin, visiting the watering holes of Jundah and Stonehenge on our way to Longreach. Overnight Longreach.
Spirit of the Outback
Day 10 - Thursday (B,L,D)Board 'The Spirit of the Outback' and check into your sleeper for your journey home. Enjoy cosy dining in the themed Tuckerbox Restaurant, and a quiet drink and chat with your fellow travellers in the club and lounge cars.
Day 11 - Friday
Return to Roma St Station early morning after an amazing lifetime experience exploring one of the world's last frontiers.
N.B. Due to inclement weather conditions and road access in this isolated area, it is necessary that travel insurance be taken out to cover travel delay expenses in the event of unforeseen circumstances, as last minute changes are possible by the operator at short notice. Some accommodation is shared facilities and is split over multiple accommodation venues.
