Day 1 - Tuesday (L,AT,D)
Board the innovative Tilt Train departing Roma St Station Brisbane at 11am, for a relaxing journey along the scenic Queensland coast to Gladstone. You arrive late afternoon and are welcomed by your hostess & Coach Captain. See the sensational display of lights on the ‘city sights by night’ tour of this lovely seaboard city with one of the busiest ports in Australia. Arrive & check-in at Rydges Hotel Gladstone.
Day 2 - Wednesday (B,MT,L,D)
This morning we make our way through the once bustling gold mining village of Calliope and on to the Callide Valley. On reaching Biloela we visit a look-out overlooking the operations of the open cut Callide Coal Mine. Enjoy morning tea and tour of Greycliffe Homestead before touring the Silo. We move on through the broad-acre farming areas and the large coal mines around Moura, past the foothills of the Expedition and Shot-over Ranges to Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge for a two night stay. The unique timber and canvas Safari Cabins have their own outback charm and blend unobtrusively into the natural bushland. A wide shady verandah allows you to sit back in your squatters chair and listen to the sounds of the bush and watch the variety of wildlife roaming quietly nearby.
Day 3 - Thursday (B,L,D)
Today we have organised a range of walking tours with different fitness levels for you to choose. Take in the natural wonders of Carnarvon Gorge. Offering an oasis feel, the gorges, springs and creeks are surrounded by pockets of lush rainforest, ancient rock art galleries & abundant wildlife of birds, platypus and kangaroos.
Day 4 - Friday (B,L,D)
This morning we head north through cattle and farming country in the Central Highlands to the historical Rainworth Station (built as a fort in 1862). Enjoy lunch with the 5th generation family of the pioneers of this region before leaving via Springsure and viewing the 'Virgin Mary Rock' and Mt. Zamia. We make our way to Emerald via the massive Lake Maraboon and Emerald Downs Station. Overnight at the Emerald Motor Inn.
Day 5 - Saturday (B,L,D)
This morning we are treated to a fascinating tour onsite a real working coal mine. Experience the scale of the operations and the massive equipment used in the coal mining industry, the warm welcome of a country mining town; outback scenery and be amazed at the sheer size of this vital, world class industry. This afternoon we pass the northern tip of the Blackdown Tablelands, cross the Dawson River, into the Beef Capital of Australia, Rockhampton before checking into Capricorn Resort, Yeppoon for a two night stay. Tonight we join Footlights Theatre Restaurant, a fabulous comedy variety show combined with a 3 course dinner.
Day 6 - Sunday (B,MT,L,D)
Today we cruise through the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the largest heritage listed area in the world. Our full day cruise begins with morning tea served on arrival at Great Keppel Island, then we transfer to one of the glass bottom boats for a Coral Viewing and Fish Feeding Tour along with an informed commentary from the expert crew. Enjoy some free time on the island before re-boarding to enjoy a sumptuous barbeque lunch whilst cruising around the islands. Return to Capricorn Resort for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7 - Monday (B,L,D)
Sleep in this morning before we depart mid-morning for Koorana Crocodile Farm, a commercial farm and home to over 3000 salt water crocodiles. Enjoy a fascinating insight and tour of a commercial farm, not your everyday tourism theme park. After lunch we travel on to Rockhampton past the heritage listed Botanic Gardens on our way to Gladstone for our last night together. Overnight Rydges Hotel Gladstone.
Day 8 - Tuesday (B,MT,L)
After breakfast we depart Gladstone Railway Station for our return journey on the Tilt Train scheduled to arrive back into Roma St Brisbane at 2.40pm.
Deposit required to secure this booking $400pp + Rail Fare.
