Milmerran

Goondiwindi Cotton

Gunsynd Statue
Day 1 (MT,L,D)
We depart Brisbane and travel along the Cunningham Highway, past the rich fertile crop growing region of the Lockyer Valley. We break for a cuppa at Gatton before climbing the Great Dividing Range, continuing on to Cecil Plains Homestead. The homestead was claimed in 1841 by Henry Stuart Russell and is situated on the banks of the Condamine River. Ludwig Leichhardt often sat on the homestead verandah discussing his expeditions with the two Russell brothers. Enjoy an informative tour of the homestead followed by a country style lunch. We pass the rustic Old Station Cemetery on our way to Millmerran where we view the historical murals, each of these larger-than-life murals telling a tale of the past. We continue on through Inglewood, the hub of the olive industry and renowned producers of sheep, cattle, timber, Lucerne hay and grapes. Our day concludes at Goondiwindi, where we check-in to the 3.5 star Goondiwindi Motel & Tracks Restaurant, for a three night stay.
Day 2 (B,MT,L,D)
This morning we collect a local guide and take a gossip tour of Goondiwindi showcasing its agriculture, water and fashion. First we visit a working cotton farm (subject to weather conditions) to observe the cotton picking process. We move on to Heritage Water Park for a lovely damper morning tea, followed by a tour of Goondiwindi Cotton, a fashion house icon. Learn how the cotton is processed from the paddock through the supply chain to the finished product. We visit Customs House Gardens for a lovely gourmet lunch followed by a tour through Customs House. We wind down our afternoon visiting the famous Gunsynd Statue and the beautiful stained glass windows at the Anglican Church. Lastly we take in a little history at Goondiwindi’s cemetery.
Day 3 (B,MT,L,D)
This morning we meet one of Australia’s leading horseman - Warwick Turner. We learn about the skills of horse cutting and see how Warwick skillfully works his beautiful horses; he is well renowned in the horse industry as a commercial operator throughout the eastern states of Australia. We break for Devonshire Tea at the Naughty Goat Farm, a micro goat dairy that specialises in natural goat milk soap and products. See and feed the girls that produce the milk for the soap before heading back into town for a guided tour of the newly restored Victoria Hotel; hear the history of Gunsynd, right from the forming of the syndicate, to his famous racing history. This tour ends with lunch and cool refreshments in the best seat in Goondiwindi! Our afternoon takes us to Woods Grains, a grain handling facility that custom manufactures grains to meet individual feedlot needs. Then on to ‘Callandoon’ a lovely old property from the 1860’s, the Botanical Gardens and lastly we visit Goondiwindi’s gourmet butcher ‘Farm Gate’.
Day 4 (B,MT,L)
We bid ‘Gundy’ good-bye making our way to Yetman known as the Cod Capital, and break for morning tea. Heading back into Queensland we make our way through Texas, a rural town boasting sawmilling, orchards, small crops and feedlots. We arrive into Stanthorpe stopping for lunch at Thunderbolt Farm, Cellar Door and Restaurant. Our afternoon takes us back to Brisbane via Warwick, passing through Cunninghams Gap. Return to Brisbane approximately 4.30pm.
